Again, what a week!
I’ve been getting back into my photo-taking habit, and it’s really helping me remember the week. Without the photos, I would definitely have difficulty recalling the last seven days.
My memory just isn’t what it used to be. Old age, maybe?
Regardless, if my memory didn’t make me feel old, this photo sure did!
I had to do a side-by-side comparison.

An old friend shared a photo of us from 1994—THIRTY-ONE YEARS AGO!
I have no recollection of that hat or shirt, but I sure as hell remember the acid-washed jean backpack purse I was wearing. 😂
Like, is that REALLY me? I’m getting to an age now where it’s hard to remember my younger self. Is this something that happens to everyone?
I’m eighteen in that photo, younger than my oldest son is now, and it’s blowing my mind.
The Husband and I have been having a lot of “holy shit, how long ago was that?” moments lately, and we often look at each other and say, “What is time anyway?”
Life is a head trip, that’s for sure.
Anyway, let me recap my week. It’s been a good one.
Weekday Sourdough Update
I made another two loaves of sourdough this week, and I’m getting better at it!
This was one I let proof while I was at work.

At first, I thought it was overproofed, and it may have been, but I still loved how it came out! Of course, I forgot to take a photo of that loaf, but here’s the other one I made over the weekend.

I’m still shocked every time I open the oven. I don’t think the awe of making my own bread will ever go away. It is so friggin’ rewarding.
There is one downside to rushing in the morning after doing some dough prep before heading out for the day. I always forget to wash my hands!

Substack Posts
I have shared a few more posts on Substack this week, mostly food, of course!
The first was my experience making homemade tortillas for the first time: Tonight’s Dinner: Chicken Tacos on Homemade Tortillas

I will have a hard time going back to store-bought ones now. The corn flavor and texture were just so good!
The next post was all about my latest Fancy Friday dinner and how I’m trying to bring this tradition back: The Return of Fancy Fridays with Lamb Chops, Couscous, and Brussels Sprouts

We’ve gotten away from the tradition, but now that the boys are older, I think it’s time to bring it back. They can have a night to fend for themselves, and the Husband and I can enjoy food we like without worrying about their tastes. It’s a win-win.
Finally, today I posted a movie review I started yesterday: Movie Review: Cellar Door (2024).
I’ve always wanted to share thoughts on some of the cheesy movies I watch, but I never really had an outlet. Now I do and I love it! (I mean, I guess I always did, but it just makes more sense to me now on Substack.)
Saturday Date Night
The Husband and I had plans with old friends to go to Top Golf on Saturday night.

We’ve never been, but The Husband has wanted to go for years. He’s the golfer. I haven’t played in 20 years, and I don’t ever have to play again.
I’ll stick with mini-golf, thank you very much. The occasional driving range trip is fine too, and that’s why I agreed to go.
I must say, it was fun! Expensive, but fun.
Even more fun when you kick your golf-playing husbands ass in one of the games.

Another Sunday Funday!
This past Sunday I went to yoga AND took a hike.
Part of the group I’m going to Iceland with is starting to “train,” so we are organizing hikes on local trails.

Our trip is for the sole purpose of hiking the Laugavegur trail between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk.
We will be backpacking and spending our nights in cabins.
I’m ecstatic but also nervous. Traveling with two teen boys on such a physically demanding trip is a little scary.
So far, they’ve been great on these training hikes, but getting them to go is still a struggle, even though they always end up having a good time.

I swear, my least favorite thing to do is persuade people to do things they don’t want to do, and as a parent to teens and a college professor, that is ALL I DO.
It’s so mentally and emotionally draining.
PICKLEBALL!
I forgot to mention this last week (I think), but The 19-Year-Old and I have joined a beginner Pickle Ball league.

Talk about being out of my comfort zone.
I am not one for team nor racket sports, but here we are.
I must admit, it is a super fun game. I resisted it for so long, but I see the appeal now that I have played.
The league is fun. It’s a great group of people, and we play four or five, fifteen-minute matches every week for the next month or so.
Homemade Pasta Win
So you may remember last week’s homemade pasta fail when my manual pasta maker broke while making dinner.
Well, I ordered a new one, pulled that pasta dough out of the freezer, and viola!

I made homemade spaghetti!! I can’t believe it.
It came out sooooo good too.

Like the tortilla shells, it will be hard to go back to store-bought pasta now that I successfully made my homemade spaghetti. I don’t see myself replacing all store-bought pasta anytime soon, but the homemade stuff isn’t as hard to make as I thought.
2025 Goal Check In
That’s all I got today. I was in a pretty good mood until I interacted with The Adult Child (I think that’s what I need to start calling him for my own sanity). UGH why is this stage of parenting so hard and exhausting? (Sorry to be a downer at the end of an otherwise happy post)

I’m so excited that you’re hiking the Laugavegur trail! I was supposed to hike that with friends this summer but unfortunately our plans changed. It’s still on my list for a future year. In the meantime I’ll look forward to your picture and stories!!
I really can’t wait! I’m still deciding if it’s worth bringing my “good” camera to document. I think I might even though it’s a lot of overhead. Or at the very least I may bring out the old goPro!
I’m sorry if this is too personal a question, but I thought the ‘adult child’ had gone to Uni?
He did for a year. Now he’s home doing a program at a local college.
