The last seven days have been a bit of a blur. So I will do what I do and let my photos remind me what happened since last Wednesday.
Plus, there’s like a million things I want to tell you!
My brain is going a mile a minute. So let’s just start.
Sourdough Updates
First up.. a Sourdough update!
Since my last post, I have made two sourdough loaves. I decided to try to come up with a midweek dough routine.
I followed the same process for all the loaves I’ve made previously: I made the levain overnight, formed the dough in the morning, stretched and folded it throughout the day, and baked it in the afternoon.
Well, that’s great on weekends, when I’m home, but I’m usually not home between 6 am and 3:30 PM (sometimes much later depending on meetings) during the week. So I wanted a process for a fresh loaf midweek.
I decided Thursday night was my first experiment.

But I ran out of flour!
I used all my whole wheat, all my bread, and all my all-purpose flour. I ended up having to use cake flour just to get to the correct proportions!
The following day, I did a stretch and fold, and put it in the fridge. When I got home from work, I pulled it out, let it come to room temperature, and baked it.
I was shocked how good it came out.

It was a little gummy, but I couldn’t have been happier considering the flour debacle.

I haven’t got a chance to try this midweek approach again, but I’m hopeful I’ll get a system down soon. When I do, I will share.
This weekend I also made my first whole wheat loaf using spelt flour.

This was after I remedied my flour problem, of course.

The whole family made sandwiches with my wheat loaf, and it was soooooo rewarding.

There is just something about making my own bread. It’s empowering!
Friday Fun
Friday was a great day! It was beautiful out and I got my hair done.

I was way overdue, so getting rid of all that hair felt great. Plus, I’m good friends with my hair stylist, so when we get together it’s like a friend-therapy session and that was much needed! Maybe even more so than the haircut.
Then this guy got his bank card for his first-ever bank account.

He was so happy. I have one kid who can’t wait to grow up and one who doesn’t want to. It’s crazy!
Friday ended with a date night. The Husband and I went out to dinner and walked around Barnes & Noble. This quote caught my eye and made me smile.

It also sent me down a rabbit hole since I researched the author, and I came across this fascinating article about the evolution of the misquotation.
I bolded rabbit hole because that also inspired the name for my new Substack.
My Rabbit Hole

I really am enjoying Substack! I’ve posted twice there this past week, and I can see myself doing it more.
Since I recommitted to blogging weekly, I find myself wanting to write more. It’s fascinating, and it validates my belief that “things” beget “things”.
The more I do something, the more I want to do it.
Writing begets writing.
Creativity begets creativity.
Cooking begets cooking.
Working out begets working out.
You get the idea. This has always been my experience. I think it’s why I’m into so many things.
Curiosity begets curiosity!
Anyway, I plan to continue tracking my goals here weekly, but I see myself posting there more regularly.
So far I have posted:
I definitely plan on posting more about food over there, along with whatever else floats my boat. I’m not going in with any plan. We’re just gonna see what happens.
Sunday Funday!
Okay, back to my weekly recap.
Sunday was the best! I decided to skip yoga because I already reached that goal for the month of March but I was shy on my hiking goal.
So my friend Rakel and I headed out for a 5 mile loop.

It was a beautiful day and an awesome hike. This is one of my favorite local trails.

It’s got great views of the river and a couple of good inclines.

When I got home I enjoyed the whole wheat sourdough I mentioned earlier and relaxed.
I invited my mom over for dinner because I was planning on making fresh pasta for #SeafoodSunday.
Keyword: planning!

That’s how far I got before my cheap manual pasta maker broke on me.

The 19-Year-Old tried to fix it but we failed.
All was not lost, however! I put the dough I made in the freezer for a future use and then just pulled some spaghetti out of the pantry.

I made quite possibly the best shrimp pasta ever! I will have to make it again and share the recipe. The family devoured it.

You continue to inspire me Roni! So many accomplishments in 2025. Good job!
I love the rabbit cartoon- I just realized that she’s you! Why did that take me so long? She’s so cute.
Your area looks so beautiful. What a blessing to have access to so many trails and creeks/rivers.
So besides Substack being easy to navigate- what else are you liking about it? Do you feel like it reminds you of when you first started blogging? Like, is there a better sense of community on Substack? Have you been reading a lot of other people’s blogs/commenting/etc.? I didn’t do the first wave of blogging so that thought hit me when I was reading your blog.
lol Yes! The rabbit version of me, but I couldn’t get AI to give her short hair. 🙂
Yes, Substack feels a lot like the old school blogging days. I’ve been exploring the community there, and subscribing to people who share interests with me. It’s so easy to find them and communicate.
What I miss about the old blogging days was the the ease of which you could find people’s blogs and follow them with old school RSS. The web felt smaller then. The explosion of social media at first was a blessing as it helped us find even more like minded people, but then… it overtook the personal blog. And now I feel like my site here is just an island. It’s hard to find in the vast ocean we call the internet.
But in the Substack universe, there are people and we see each other and we can interact easily. I don’t need to stay on my island and maintain it and hoping that a ship sails that by may or may not notice me.
Does that even make sense?
Iceland!! It is on my bucket list. I remember when you took your very first trip with the boys! I’m so happy you’re keeping up the tradition! You continue to inspire. Thank you.
Thank you! This will probably be the last official Mother Sons trip. At least in the traditional sense. They are getting so old! In a weird way they were easier to plan when they were younger.
