I’ve got nothing, guys. My desire to write just hasn’t been there.
My Substack sits, unedited, since July 21st. I’m coming off the high of two trips back-to-back, one of which was physically and emotionally exhausting. I’m officially back at work tomorrow, even though I’ve been working off-contract all week to prepare for classes. My youngest is gearing up for high school… HIGH SCHOOL! And I’ve been getting back into the groove of training at the gym.
I have no complaints. I’m just going through the motions at the moment, in a good way. A little overwhelmed and tired, but all is well. I think I’ll just update goals and head to bed.
Oh! I forgot to share the video of our Iceland trip last week. I spent some time editing all the clips into one montage video that documents the entire week. I really like how it came out.
That’s it, that’s all I got. Until next week!

August is a lot. It’s hot. Back to school. Grass that won’t stop growing. Why on earth did I grow/buy/get so many green beans and tomatoes? The stores are carrying Halloween cookies and I haven’t started thinking/deciding/planning Thanksgiving/winter break/christmas. The tax law is changing/taxes haven’t been filed yet/health insurance HSA choices are coming.
My friend has cancer/my mother has dementia/my favorite cousins son was in a terrible car wreck.
The dog is acting lethargic/the cat is puking every other night.
WORK IS INTENSE and overwhelming.
On and on.
And yet, we have a new grand baby. I’m 1 year 9 months 25 days sober. I’m eating mostly vegetarian. I have lost 40 pounds and kept it off for over a year. I’m rebuilding our savings after the city move, pandemic, Helene, career changes.
Why? Because I am tracking my goals. Maybe I’m not doing everything to the max (see above) but I’m still putting in at least the minimal effort and using my tools (for me, it’s note cards and an excel spreadsheet and a word document with monthly and yea, sometimes weekly goal. (Who knew that using a foot scraper and moisturizer several times a week could mostly eliminate corns/calluses/cracking feet? Apparently, not this 62 year woman.)
I recognize that my level of tracking would not work for others. But, for me, it is my lifeline in this storm that is August in the maelstrom that is my current life.
Thank you for the reminder that goals can have minimums.
I hope today is beautiful for you.
And thank you! I guess we are both just trucking along! I know my way of goal tracking isn’t for everybody too, but it sure works for me. I love having this thread of minimum… it’s the small things done consistently that matter most. #wycwyc. 🙂
