We’re already a week into the new year, and if I had sat down to write this post earlier, I probably would have talked your ear off about all the cool things I’ve been doing.
However, as the week went on, my mood slowly shifted.
There are a few things contributing to that shift, like current events, parenting a teenager, and work, but I’m not here to talk about any of that.
I’d much rather let the blog do what it has always done for me: get me out of my head and focused on the things that bring me joy.
I also want to establish a way to track this year’s goals. I really enjoyed using the bullet list last year, and it helped me stay focused, so I’m continuing that approach but with more flexibility.
You may also notice I added (y02w01) to the title. I like numbering my posts. It was a fun way to see the year in weeks rather than one big, overwhelming time frame.
So, I’m going to categorize my goals as I did in last week’s post, add some granularity, and then use the format below to track.
2026 Goal Tracking
Cooking/Food
#SaladTime
I posted three this week!
- Warm broccoli #saladtime with chickpeas!
- A pizza-inspired #saladtime – I will be making this one again!
- This #saladtime is a fun flavor combo of kiwi, blueberry, avocado, and lime!
And I’m glad I did. I was losing my salad ways over the break, but I’m getting back into the habit.
Weekly Soup
I made a roasted red pepper and tomato with chicken, sausage, and tortellini, and I’ve been enjoying it for lunch all week!

I used stock I made from a Christmas turkey, and I have enough leftover to make next week’s soup too.
Sourdough
The goal here is about a loaf a week, and I made baguettes today for dinner.

I am trying to get better at baguette making. As you can see, not the best, but they were tasty! I think I rushed the fermentation, and I never score them deep enough!
But I’ll get better. 🙂
Homemade Pasta
Not yet!
Ev in Kitchen
We had a plan on Tuesday, and then I caved. I just didn’t have the energy to “make” him help me.
After twenty-plus years of parenting, I am just tired. This teenage stage is exhausting.
Fitness/Weightlifting
Oly Training
Completed all my prescribed training this week, and my snatches felt snappy!
Today I was battling a little side pain during my cleans, but overall I’m feeling good with my training.
Handstand Progress
I’m getting there!

Pull Ups
No real work on these besides a little lat activation work. I need to start incorporating something into my weekly routine.
Jump Rope
I worked on these on Tuesday and set a goal of 100 unbroken double-unders before the end of the year. I hope to hit it much sooner. I’ve been working on them for some time now.
Daily Walks
Walked every day this week!
Hikes
- Goal: Twice a month
- January 1/3
I hit the trails on Saturday!

Hot Yoga
- Goal: Twice a month
- January 1/4
I got to the studio on Sunday, and it was glorious.
Pickleball
The Husband and I signed up for a league that starts February 10!
Creative/Other Pursuits
Music
I practiced the guitar 4 times this week, and it was so fun! I was surprised by how much I remembered once I dove back in. Honestly, it kind of made me mad that I’ve been avoiding it. I was better than I thought I’d be.
Painting
I painted twice this week. The featured image above and this fun tree exercise.

Acting Class
No update… but this reminded me I need to do some research!
Spanish
Keeping up with Duolingo still. No update on a class or anything.
Alcohol Reduction
I’m slipping this in here because it did me a lot of good. I am still not ready to give it up totally, but I like the goal of drinking no more than twice a month, so I’m going to track to keep myself accountable.
- Goal: No more than two days of drinking a month.
- January 1/1
Looking Ahead
I already feel better reflecting on this week!
Next week is shaping up to be a busy one. I’m instructing a technical training and presenting at the college’s Teaching and Learning Fair. I also have to start prepping my Spring classes. So, work is definitely ramping up.
I’m also running a bit late with this post, which means it’s time to close the laptop and get outside for my daily walk. Marsh is waiting.
I hope your first week of the new year treated you well. I’ll check back in next week.

I like this new approach!
I feel you with getting your teen in the kitchen. My 8th grader can make scrambled eggs on the stove, but that’s about it, and I know I need to get him involved… but planning out how to have him help takes so much more forethought than just throwing dinner together on my own.
Also? Your weekly updates have inspired me to refocus on monthly goals for myself. My ADHD brain needs some grace and flexibility, so I like to regroup every month and see where my head’s at.
But that’s a story for my own blog, not your comments section. Your return to blogging has been noted and appreciated!
THANK YOU!
