Skin of My Teeth! (y02w36)

It’s 8pm on Saturday, and I’m squeezing this post in to keep my weekly blog streak going. I haven’t missed a week since January 2025, and I’m not going to start now.

My ultimate goal is to post on Wednesdays, but my week runs Sunday through Saturday, so as long as I get a post in within that range, I’m happy. I like the accountability of it.

I realize how ridiculous this sounds… but it works for me. It’s how I approach all my goals. And now that I am 50 (still saying it out loud so it feels more real lol), I can honestly say I don’t care what you think. It works for me, and that is all that matters.

I realized a while ago that all I can do is share my experiences, and I quite enjoy doing it. My experiences are literally the only thing I’m an expert in. I don’t blog to share some high-level expertise in anything other than my own life. And it’s how I, a classic overthinker, process.

Frankly, if I don’t get these thoughts out of my head, they fester, and I start to feel overwhelmed.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that creating instead of consuming makes me SO much happier. And writing is creating. Painting is creating. Learning guitar… creating. Cooking. Recording fun food videos. Video editing. Even planning my classes and building materials for students is creating.

So I could have come home from a long day of visiting relatives, turned on the TV, and vegged out scrolling through reels.

OR

I could grab the laptop and write.

So here I am, processing all these thoughts and smiling while I do it. Especially because early in the week I thought about what I wanted to post, and the whole creating vs. consuming thing was what I wanted to write about, and somehow I still ended up doing it, albeit not how I expected to.

I don’t think I’m going to post a big goal update this week. That’s a lot of pressure I don’t need right now. I am definitely adjusting to my new schedule, and my priorities have shifted a bit.

I did get all my training in at the gym because that’s number one for me, since I’m training for at least one more event this year and have no plans to lose any of the progress I’ve made.

I also made it to the yoga studio this morning before my day trip. My body definitely thanked me for it. I am feeling great!

Guitar took a back seat this week, but I painted two more cards for friends and recorded a WastelesslyDelicious video on a whim one day when I got home from work because I found two aging oranges that needed to be used.

Oh! I even started a weekly journal on LinkedIn about some successes I’ve had in the classroom because I just wanted to share.

Overall, it’s been a great week even though I really struggled in the middle when a wave of anxiety kind of washed over me after a tough class. The amount of energy I need to pour into a face-to-face class is insane, and when you don’t get much back, it can really weigh on you. But I got over it.

I am optimistic about this semester. I have some really engaged students, and it’s been refreshing.

Our creative sides help us get through the mundane times in our lives. Crocheting is my current destress/mental health break that I use. I really notice the days that I don’t crochet. I need my therapy!!!
