Just a Week (w11)

I can’t believe it’s already time to blog again. That was a fast week. It just flew by, just a week. Nothing special.

Well, actually, that’s not exactly true! Monday was Little Bean’s birthday, and we celebrated with a family dinner on Saturday.

He sat on his brother’s lap for a photo. It was so stinkin’ cute. It warms my heart to see how they get along now. The 6-year age gap has always been interesting, but now that they are both teenagers, their relationship has really blossomed.

Dinner was fun. Ryan made Mac & cheese (I forgot to take a picture) for his brother (it’s his favorite). I made BBQ chicken, ribs, kale salad, cornbread, a birthday cake, and a loaf of sourdough, of course!

This may have been my best loaf yet! The family devoured it.

I also used some sourdough discard in the cornbread, which was delicious!

The whole day was great, and this guy has grown up so, so much.

(That’s my brother, niece, and mom in the background)

Honestly, he’s an absolute joy. Well, when the teenage attitude is kept in check.

The rest of the week is a bit of a blur. It’s midterm, so work has been a bit busier than usual. I haven’t had much time to do anything but go to work and the gym.

So, I guess I’ll update my goals and wrap this up. It’s Survivor night! The Husband and I get to bed early on Wednesdays to watch, and sometimes I even stay awake long enough to see The Amazing Race, but that’s pretty rare.

Love reading your weekly recaps! Impressed that you can sometimes make it up for Amazing Race, too 🙂 This season I finally bit the bullet and got Paramount Plus so I can watch Survivor and the race without fighting to keep my eyelids open!

Roni! You would be perfect for either one of those shows! Have you ever applied? My daughters and I love to watch “The Amazing Race” but after our trip to England this past summer I realized that I don’t think I could handle the traveling. And I’ll tell y’all a little secret- I filled out a Survivor application- even went so far as to record my audition video. It can only be 3 minutes long! I did take after take after take and couldn’t come up with a good video that felt authentic. And I struggled to explain why I thought I would do good on the island. Because… I think I would be terrible at it! I’m too nice and I get sick really easily!
So why do I think you would do well- you seem tougher than me. You’re friendly and you like to engage with people. You’re smart and knowledgeable and curious. And you’re strong! You’d be carrying around those bamboo logs like the football girl that first week this season. Have you thought about applying?

SO funny! We talk about this all the time. I would love the actual surviving on the island but I would HATE the social game. Honestly, I think I’m too nice and trusting. I think I would be so stressed the hole time knowing everyone is scheming.

p.s. And every time I read your blog I think- I want to do that too! So I’m doing the darn thing. I’ve always been so worried about privacy and “the internet is forever” and whatever but I’m tired of existing in a tiny, tiny bubble. Thanks for inspiring me to be brave. https://aselvarajan.substack.com/p/your-voice-matters

Been following you a long time, hard to believe he is 14!! I remember when you found out you were pregnant with him, think you were on a vacation at the time.
