F*ck the Scale and Aesthetics

Doooooood, I killed it at the gym this morning! We are wrapping up a 12-week strength cycle and today was our last round of back squats.

I posted a video update on TikTok, but this is too big not to share here. It does, however, require a little backstory, of course.

Most of you know I didn’t even start weight training until my mid-thirties. Heck, I didn’t even start working out until about thirty-one. When I turned thirty, I lost seventy pounds via diet alone, and then I started getting the confidence to go to the gym.

7 Days – 7 Photos – 1 Big Feeling-Old Vent

It’s been a week since my last post? How is that possible? And how is May on the outs already? Didn’t May just start? Come to think of it, I’m not even sure it’s really 2022 – like a year ago, it was 2019, and 5 years ago, was like 2015, so yea.

And wait. a. minute.

Is my baby going on a tour of his middle school tomorrow? This kid was just born like… what? And his brother? His brother is GOING TO BE A SENIOR?!

I can’t.

I’ve been feeling very old lately.

Out With the Old

What a fantastic weekend!

We didn’t do anything special.
No big events or outings.
No plans with friends.
Not even a sporting or school event.

This weekend we just played it by ear, and it was glorious!

A Rainy 21st Anniversary Weekend Escape

Finally! A minute to tell you about my awesome weekend.

Last week The Husband and I celebrated our 21st Wedding Anniversary.

In honor of this insanity, and since our marriage can now officially drink, we decided our trip should be inspired by wine and whiskey.

Our weekend started Friday afternoon after a day of meetings for me. We headed out around 2 pm in a torrential downpour. I’m not kidding; the rain was relentless! And we had about a two and half hour drive to Luray, Virginia.

Work-Play-Eat

That is about the only way to describe my day.

I’m in the last few weeks of the semester, and today was dominated by classes and meetings. As soon as I got home, The 11-Year-Old begged me to take him to the river.

I’ll be honest. I didn’t want to go. It was a long day. I was tired. But it’s so close, and he loves it so much, I couldn’t say no.

So I brought a chair, picked up my mom, and we sat on the sore while he frolicked and relaxed in the water.

Weekend Cooking and Geocaching Adventures

I would have loved to write this last night but come Sunday nights, I’m exhausted! Especially now that the weather is finally starting to break and we are doing more outside.

This weekend two things dominated my time, cooking and geocaching.

Friday Fridge Clean-Out: Poblanos

I’m trying to make this a weekly series because it’s so fun!

As a family, we meal plan dinner Monday through Thursday, for the most part. I try to involve the family as much as possible. Each kid picks a day they will cook or help, and they choose the meal. We go through stages, of course. It all depends on how busy we are and what’s going on.

Friday, however, I like to have a little fun and celebrate the weekend.

Our Marriage Can Drink?!

As if I wasn’t already feeling old, our marriage went ahead and turned 21 yesterday.

I could go on and on about what I think makes a marriage work. However, the older and deeper I get into my own relationship, the more I realize how irrelevant my opinion is.

There’s no one-way relationships “work.”

Catching Snatches and Throwing Avocados

Wednesdays are my busy days. I have three face-to-face classes back to back, and it’s exhausting, in a good way!

I’d much rather be engaged all day than work solo in my office. Plus, the students have more work than I do with the semester wrapping up. My role shifts to more of a help desk position. Teaching technical classes and introduction to programming means I’m constantly problem-solving.

Wednesday is also one of my favorite days at the gym. We call it Weightifint Wednesday, and today was snatch day!

You Like Me, You Really Like Me!

I. Am. Blown. Away.

On a whim today, I decided to reactivate my old blog Facebook page. I did NOT expect to reconnect with so many people who used to read my blog!

I felt a little like Sally Fields. (Only you fellow old people will get that reference.)
