T – 4 Days Until Africa?!

I really couldn’t come up with a more creative title than that probably because I’m in shock. You guys may not remember when I hopped on an opportunity to travel to Uganda with friends, so I will recap…

A friend of mine has a friend who’s currently working in Uganda. He invited people to come visit while he’s stationed there. I decided to join the group because, really, I may never get this opportunity again. Especially, for pretty much, the cost of a plane ticket.

I bought the plane tickets way back in August. The trip seemed so far in the future that it was just something fun to talk about. Well, the time has come. My flight leaves THIS Friday at 11 p.m. We stop in Turkey for a 2-hour layover and then fly into Entebbe, Uganda.

That’s in 4 day’s ya’ll.

I’m slightly freaking out.

No… that’s a lie.

I’ve spent the weekend treating my clothes with bug spray and seeing if I could get away with fitting it all in a backpack.

I succeeded!

The only thing I haven’t figured out is my camera situation. I rented a lens for my Nikon because there is no way I’m traveling to Africa without the ability to take good photos!

Experimenting with lenses is a first for me, so I’m going to be out of my element in a whole host of ways!

I doubt I’ll be able to blog again before I leave. I’ve been wanting to post about this for days but I’ve just been so damn busy getting ready. I’m going to try to update Instagram as much as I can. You guys know me. I love to document!

If I had more time I’d tell you about roller skating with the 11-Year-Old…

Cooking with The Husband… (Yes WITH!!)

And taking the 6-Year-Old out to dinner with friends…

But I have to go to bed.

It’s going be quite some time until I will be able to blog again. I’m not bringing my computer and I won’t be home until April 16. Then it’s straight back to work. I’m a little worried how I’m going to manage it but any loss of sleep is worth a trip to Africa.

I mean… I’m going to Africa!!

  • Have a great time! What anti malarial are you taking? I recommend against Lariam.

  • Roni, I have been reading your blog for many years. I am so excited for you. I traveled to southern Africa in 1998, lived there for over 3 years and continue to return regularly. It changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. I have met the most incredibly kind, hospitable, and giving people. I wish you safe travels. Enjoy every moment!

    • I second this. My time in Africa changed who I am, and how I see the world. I am so happy you are embarking on this experience and can’t wait to hear about it when you’re back.

  • I hope you enjoy every minute of your trip, Roni! I can hardly wait to hear about it when you get back.
