Birthday Boy, Breakfast Skipping, and Bag Hunting for Africa

birthday boy

I need to start this post with my birthday boy, of course. This weekend was all about him. We did dinner on Friday. And he had a party with school friends on Saturday. He was practically glowing all weekend. I, on the other hand, was dragging. I double booked us Saturday morning and had organized a Fit Club outing while my mom was in to visit. So I had to help host kids from the school at my CrossFit gym. I

What State are You In?

My intense training week at work is over and I made it out alive. Actually, I made it out inspired! I work with some of the most amazing people. The amount of knowledge and experience they have in business, sales and education is impressive, and I feel lucky to have had a chance to hear them all speak this past week. One presentation in particular (Positive Guidance for Young Children) has possibly changed my whole approach to parenting, how I interact with

Ask Roni: You Gained Weight. Doesn’t That Bother You?

So glad you like your new work so much. I must ask though, and please don’t take offence, I am just wondering, it looks like you have gained about half the weight back from those figures… does that not bother you and are you going to do something about it? Been following your blog for many, many years. -Fiona Fiona is referring to the screenshot I posted in yesterday’s post that said I weighed 160 pounds… I was glad she asked

Bullet Point Friday With a Week of Office Lunches

Happy Friday! I’m between work and a dinner date with The Husband so I’m going to make this quick. First of all, work is AWESOME! I really, really love it. Maybe it’s still the newness of everything that makes me happy but I don’t think so. I’m having a little self-doubt and confidence issues here and there but that’s just me. I’m starting to feel productive and part of the team, although I know still have a long way to go

Tales From the New Office Job!

Valentines day

OMG I have SO much to tell you guys! My first day on the new job was on Valentine’s Day and I came home to this. Totally sweet and unexpected. Anyway, let me just tell you off the bat, the new job is awesome! I don’t think I could have found a better match for me in all realms — location, co-workers, and the actual work work. My commute is just under 20 minutes. I take mostly side roads and go

In One Week …

I start my new job! I can’t believe it. After a 7-year hiatus from traditional work I have accepted a marketing manager position for a national daycare franchise. Next week at this time I’ll be in an office doing office-y things dressed in office-y clothes. (Speaking of, I am in desperate need of a shopping trip. I haven’t had to wear “real” clothes in a very long time. Everything in my closet is way out of style and at least

Escaping Reality on a Saturday Afternoon

Laser gun battle ground

Needing an escape from the real world, I have decided to take a break and write about my day so far. It all started with a little internal battle. I posted this on Facebook a little while ago… Lying in bed this morning. Pondering a run to the gym so I could take yoga. Should I go? Nah. The bed is nice. Should I go? Ugh. I don’t want to get dressed. Should I go? Gah! It’s cold out there. Should I

A One-Picture Sensational Sunday on Monday Morning

laundry bombs

I kicked this weekend’s ass! Not only did I take yoga both Saturday and Sunday, I snuck in a mile run, took a new-to-me class at the gym (BodyVive), cleaned (most of) the house, hit the grocery store and got all the laundry done with the boys. We even revived an old family tradition: laundry bombs… Although we were a little sad 11-Year-Old is almost too big to do them. He needs much more padding to break his fall now that he

Lentil Soup with Homemade Ham Stock

Lentil Soup with Homemade Ham Stock

This is the post in which I declare my love of soups. I’m sure I’ve made this declaration before but I feel compelled to restate it especially since I’ve been diving deeper into the world of homemade soup and stock. This Christmas for the second year in a row I made my traditional French Onion Soup using homemade beef stock. I would have never thought it was as easy as it was until I tried it — roast bones, simmer, strain.

A First-Place Masters Finish!

Here I am overhead squatting 65 pounds in the final workout of the competition I participated in on Sunday. A friend from my old gym (Jim) competed with me. We were in the male/female masters (40+) scaled division and killed it! Well, the first 2 workouts anyway. The first workout was a power clean ladder. We had to complete at least 1 Power Clean as a team within 45 seconds to progress through the ladder. If we hit all 10 lifts then 5
