Slow and Steady Gains – Week 3

Today I wrapped up another week of my new training routine. It’s been a challenging 3 weeks and I’m starting to notice some changes in my strength. Nothing earth shattering but just slow and steady progress. Here’s how this week shaped up. Sunday Run turned walk. Monday Back Squat – 10 Reps as Heavy As Possible (AHAP) then 2 sets with in 90% My goal was just to go a little heavier than last week’s 143 lbs and I did! I

Thursday Thoughts: Rabbit Holes

According to Google, one definition of rabbit holes refers to a bizarre, confusing, or nonsensical situation or environment, typically one from which it is difficult to extricate oneself. My co-worker jokingly hung this on the bulletin board in my office because I’m always saying everything at work leads down a rabbit hole. An email question will have me researching answers. A phone call leads to a dive into our database. Someone stops by my office and all of a sudden

Look out the Window… Are There Pigs Flying?

First of all, The Husband… MY husband… is cooking. I know. I can’t believe it either. Twenty-two years we’ve been together and I never thought I’d see the day. The cooler thing is cooking is getting him more “into” food. He’s more adventurous and taking much more of an interest. This is a guy that used to live off fast food and boxed mac & cheese. It’s fabulous! It’s also a huge adjustment for me. I have been in control

An Early Thanksgiving Celebration

So I again fell off the planet for a few days in respect to the blog but Operation Overboard Prevention was in full effect. Since my parents had vacation plans this week the entire family decided to celebrate Thanksgiving early over the weekend. I was in full blown holiday mode starting Friday when I shopped for the big meal. My in-laws came in Saturday and then Sunday the whole family sat down to the feast I prepared. Thanksgiving has become my

Stuffed Pepper and Cabbage Soup

So I fell off the planet for a few days. My apologies to my fellow OOPers.  I actually started my food journal Friday morning and then I’m not sure what happened but the day ended with me on the couch with a bag of Halloween candy. Saturday started with a morning trip to the gym and soccer games then ended at a friend’s house playing pool and enjoying a few ciders. In between was a whole bunch of not-much. Lately not-much is just

Fighting the Urge to Emotional Eat

I’m not going to talk politics here. It’s not what my blog is about. It’s not what I want it to be about. I’ve engaged in enough discussions on Facebook to know you aren’t going to change anyone’s mind, even though I do love a good discussion sometimes. That said, the election has emotionally affected me more than I anticipated. I posted this on my Facebook page earlier today and all the responses did make me feel less alone. At one point today

Happy Election Day!

I’m enjoying a drink and watching the results. It’s going to be a nail biter! Here’s my food journals for the last 2 days: Monday Breakfast I started my morning with chili. I know. I’m weird. Recipe here. Snack Grabbed a Brookside bar. Lunch The Husband and I hit our favorite sandwhich shop and I ordered a corned beef wrap. It was the first time I got it and it was heaven! We also shared an order of fries. Dinner

Thoughts After My Yearly Physical

Sorry I didn’t post last night. I’m taking Thursday nights off for my bowling league. Yesterday, I also had my yearly physical. Here I am waiting (not so) patiently for the doctor. I was bored out of my mind. I didn’t get to see her until an hour after my appointment time. They apparently have a new computer system so they were running behind. They always seem to be running behind. Anyway, when I got there I told her assistant I’d

Dinner for Breakfast and Other Food Adventures of the Day

Breakfast …was dinner. Really! I just ate an awesome plate of leftovers after the gym and getting the kids off to school. I actually weighed out the meat, something I haven’t done in a really long time. I wanted to remind myself what a portion looked like. That’s 3 ounces exactly. Lunch More Butternut Squash Soup with chicken, pumpkin seeds and goat cheese. I can’t get enough of this stuff. I have one bowl left. Snack I grabbed a nut-based bar on

Halloween Food Fun and My First OOP Food Journal

Yesterday I made the cutest dinner in honor of Halloween. Roast “Beast” with Ghost Potatoes and Carrot Fingers. The kids thought it was cheesy but I had a blast making it, especially the ghosts. Who would have thought baked mashed potatoes would be so good?! Anyway, Day 1 of Operation Overboard Prevention was a success. Here’s my first food journal: Breakfast: Homemade pumpkin seeds. It was a crazy morning so I just grabbed a handful. Lunch: Pulled chicken and mashed sweet potatoes
