Baby Stepping All The Things!

Remember that one time I published a book about how little things add up to big things and you should simply do What You Can When You Can?

The hashtag (#wycwyc) may never have caught on the way I hoped, but I’m still “wycwyc’ing” my way to my goals.

At the Gym…

This morning I finally hit a new 5 lb bench press PR after about two years. I wasn’t even testing out, just feeling good and decided to go for it. I told my friends that if I hit it, I’d have to take a barbell selfie.

Well, here I am at 6 a.m. this morning with my barbell full of 10’s.

I love working towards lifting goals. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to do something you once couldn’t do, and tracking progress over time is a great way to stay motivated.

I remember benching a max of 83 lbs when I first started working out fairly seriously, and today I was able to lift 133 lbs!

I’ll take it. My goal is one day bench my body weight. I’m only about 15lbs away!

At Home…

The Husband and I have been in a good place recently. I mean we usually are, but lately, we’ve been making an effort steal time for ourselves while balancing family time.

We’ve both been doing more little things with the kids too. Tuesday we took them to play mini-golf, and Wednesday night we had fun going to Chick-Fil-A before the middle school concert.

Last night The 7-Year-Old and I baked cookies just ’cause.

He had fun using his playdough cutters, and I experimented with a fun idea I had — taking my less-sugar cookie dough and turning it into a more summery lemon poppy seed idea. Once I make them again, I’ll share the recipe with you. They came out fantastic!

This weekend I promised him we’d have a craft day. We are going to pull out all our creative stuff and have fun. I’m also hoping to make some bath gels and hand soaps with my oils if the new glass bottles I ordered come in time.

I forgot how much fun 7 is. The Almost-13-Year-Old is a little harder nut to crack, but it’s not impossible. I’m learning to take advantage of his talkative moods while giving him a little more space the days I feel like strangling him. It seems to be working so far, but I have a feeling I’m in for a bumpy ride the next 5 or so years.

On the Professional Front…

This morning, I finished my Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification by taking the hands-on portion at Red Cross.

As an Instructional Technologist, it was fun to take part of the content online for a few reasons, but the face-to-face portion was better than I anticipated. Our trainer was great and the class was really engaged.

I’ve also started to take the online course prep for the ACE Personal Trainer Cert. It’s a lot of material and will take a few months. My goal is to finish sometime this fall.

That’s about it from my little corner of the world. Anyone else still wycwyc’ing? Any goals reached recently?

    I’m active on Sparkpeople and one piece of advice I give the newbies is to do “WYCWYC” and not think that “oh, it’s only 10 minutes.” Every little bit adds up and for some those little bits are all it takes to get going. Even now where I’m very committed to working out, in a time crunch I still think of this and will take a 5 minute walk if that’s all the time I have. Glad to hear you’re doing well and can’t believe the little one is 7!!!!

    Still #wycwyc-ing away in central IL! I am #wycwyc ing my way to my second triathlon, just 3 weeks away, and somehow overcame many fears and just started officially training for my first marathon. #wycwyc into some STRUCTURED training!
