Today I attended the Rally for Sanity. I’m not a super political person but I enjoy watching Stewart and Colbert so the husband and I thought it would be fun to wander down to DC for the day and see what it was all about.
We never expected the turn out would be so, well, INSANE! We arrived at the Greenbelt Metro station around 10:45 and got in line. This wasn’t any ordinary line it literally wrapped and weaved around the entire parking lot.
Here’s the husband celebrating reaching the first curve of the line.
About a half hour later…
An hour in and we FINALLY see the station!
By 12:30 (a half hour AFTER the rally started) we finally got on the train.
The crowd was unbelievable. This was the view in every direction. It was the largest group of “insane” “sane” people I’ve ever seen.
We couldn’t even get close to the stage or the screens and we could barely hear anything except for Ozzy. ;)
Instead of fighting the crowds we decided to stroll around, read signs and people watch. We passed the Flying Spaghetti Monster on the way to the…
White House.
Here’s the husband in front of the Washington Monument. It was a gorgeous day to stroll around the city.
One of the best signs I saw was held up by a young girl. I fear my son’s school lunch as well, so it made me smile. :)
Before heading back home we decided to stop at the American Museum of Natural History. Here I am in the jaws of a dinosaur and now you can see why I’m not IN any photos. Let’s just say the Husband makes a better subject than photographer.
Around 5ish we started to head home. The train was just as crowded as it was coming in.
Overall we had a great time. I’m not much of a rally person but it was fun to experience the vibe in DC today. The crowd was fun, friendly and even polite. I’m glad we went.
