My Trip to the Rally for Sanity

Rally for Sanity

Today I attended the Rally for Sanity. I’m not a super political person but I enjoy watching Stewart and Colbert so the husband and I thought it would be fun to wander down to DC for the day and see what it was all about.

We never expected the turn out would be so, well, INSANE! We arrived at the Greenbelt Metro station around 10:45 and got in line. This wasn’t any ordinary line it literally wrapped and weaved around the entire parking lot.

Here’s the husband celebrating reaching the first curve of the line.

About a half hour later…

An hour in and we FINALLY see the station!

By 12:30 (a half hour AFTER the rally started) we finally got on the train.

The crowd was unbelievable. This was the view in every direction. It was the largest group of “insane” “sane” people I’ve ever seen.

Rally for Sanity - the people

We couldn’t even get close to the stage or the screens and we could barely hear anything except for Ozzy. ;)

Instead of fighting the crowds we decided to stroll around, read signs and people watch. We passed the Flying Spaghetti Monster on the way to the…

White House.

Here’s the husband in front of the Washington Monument. It was a gorgeous day to stroll around the city.

One of the best signs I saw was held up by a young girl. I fear my son’s school lunch as well, so it made me smile. :)

Before heading back home we decided to stop at the American Museum of Natural History. Here I am in the jaws of a dinosaur and now you can see why I’m not IN any photos. Let’s just say the Husband makes a better subject than photographer.

Around 5ish we started to head home. The train was just as crowded as it was coming in.

Overall we had a great time. I’m not much of a rally person but it was fun to experience the vibe in DC today. The crowd was fun, friendly and even polite. I’m glad we went.

I watched on tv but I didn't see you! :) Sounds like a wonderful, active day!

We went too! Fun but had no idea what was going on on stage. Heard the Cat Stevens's song and Ozzie but had no clue it was really them and didn't understand why the songs kept fading out until we saw a replay on you-tube of the bantering. My favorite sign was a little boy that was holding a sign saying "I'm four and I'm sane".

I agree...the crowd was fun and polite.

I wanted to go but toddler got sick..at the last minute (ugh kiddie germs!)
I am glad you had fun (and lots of exercise!)

A friend of mine went to the rally all the way from Michigan!

I'm glad it was so awesome and had a good turn out! Sorry you had to stand in line for so long!

I have to admit I am a little jealous and wish I could have been there.

I fear school lunch too! Awesome sign. Glad you enjoyed your day.

I was at the rally in Chicago and I saw the same: polite people gathering together to watch John Stewart and Colbert. Glad you had a blast!

"The crowd was fun, friendly and even polite."
Imagine that?! Not what the media would portray, I'd guess.
Glad you had an adventure and some good times.

LOL! I have the same picture of Hunni and the dinosaur. :-)
